Karen, how hard was that for you to claim a title at home?

If you had asked me at the beginning of the tournament would I win it or not, I wouldn’t even think about it. There are no guarantees. You play it match by match, you win and then start to believe that you have a chance to win the tournament. When I arrived in Moscow, of course, I was in the mood of winning it, I thought about it. But in general, each match was difficult in its own way. The tournament was really hard to win.

Can you compare the emotions you are having right now winning VTB Kremlin Cup» and when you won Marcel and Chengdu?

Of course, for now «VTB Kremlin Cup» is at the first place. As I said before, when I was running around that stadium as a kid, it was my dream to win a title here in Moscow, on my home soil at the «VTB Kremlin Cup». I will always remember this title!

The final match lasted less than an hour, can you explain what lead to such a short fight?

Well, you are not alone on a court, you always have an opponent. Something wasn’t working out for him, but I can say, that I am happy with the game I demonstrated throughout the tournament, I was improving with every match. That is the key to success. I think I showed my signature game, and somewhere Mannarino just couldn’t do what he wanted to.

Your career in tennis is not too long yet, but you have been playing at VTB Kremlin Cup for a long time. What can you say about attendance? It seems that with your appearance and with the start of Daria Kasatkina, the fans began to show more interest in tennis?

That is right. And it's so pleasant! It feels differently when the stands are full. You play better. These inexpressible emotions give you energy, motivate you . I have heard many times that when players start to rush further into the draw and win, people start coming to support. Of course, I would like the stands to be full from the first rounds, but it is not always within my power. In any case, today support frm the crowd was great. It's a pleasure to play and win in front of such an audience.

You are 19th in the world rankings – top-10 is already so close. Do you want to break into the top 10 in the next season or the main goal is to keep the position?

And if you were asked whether you wanted to be in the top 10 or not, what would you say?! There are two more tournaments to play ahead even in this season, so everything is possible. Naturally, I focus on each tournament, on each match. Tennis is such a thing that every week you have the opportunity to win, but there is also a chance to lose. In the end, it is impossible to predict. You never know what week will be successful. Sometimes you play your best tennis, and sometimes some factors disturb you. Now I will celebrate my victory, I will have a rest and I will go to the following tournament.

Will you come to Moscow to defend the title next year, if you have an opportunity?

Well, there is a whole year ahead of us. I can begin the countdown (laughter). But I will see how the season goes, in which tournaments I will participate. I am always happy to play here in Moscow, I have already said that. And if there is a chance, I will definitely come.
