Yesterday you predicted that you would not hold back. Gone all day, and it happened. What got the rise out of you on the court?

For what happened - I behaved very restrained, some important people said. I do not know how to describe it. I was in the moment when he [Ricardas Berankis] was supposed to win this easy rally. The ball was out, but I hit it and threw it over the net. We had to replay. So I lost my mind, because it was a terrible mistake. But we all make mistakes, it happens. In addition, it helped me, to start, I was looking for this state the whole match. Even in the first set, I felt that I need something more to win. Well, due to this state in the third set I began to crush him. And won.

And why in the second set such a decline occurred?

In the second set I didn’t serve well enough. In the third set, I was rescued by the serve, giving me the opportunity to calmly concentrate on the receiving and look for some ways to break and win. In the second set it was not there. Plus, he collected all the lines. Different moments were very important, he played well. Yes, the 1/6 score on a indoor hard is not a normal score, but I am not in the best shape right now.

The match lasted less than one hour and a half. Physically how do you feel?

I am pretty tired, especially emotionally, because even if this [conflict with the judge] helped me to start, it takes a lot of energy and concentration. So I will do everything to recover.

Perhaps it will happen to be a close confrontation with Karen, what do you think about this match and what do you expect?

It will be fun! We only once played in Milan on a professional tour. I think that both of us are uncomfortable with each other to play because of our styles. I don’t like that he serves and strikes hard, it’s hard to take shots, he doesn’t like some of my shots. Which I do not know, I think he will tell better. It will be interesting, I will try to show a good tennis. I hope that he will show his too and we will be able to find out the strongest in tomorrow's match if he wins today.

And if we talk about the match in Milan, how serious was your standoff there?

Before the tournament in Milan, I myself thought that, well, this is the last tournament. Everyone will have fun, there will be hot shots. But in the end, everyone came out charged to win. They fought to the end for each rally, the same was with Karen. I do not remember why I caught cramps. I remember that in the 4th set I won but all my body was cramping. There were no smiles, it was a real competitive match. I hope that tomorrow it will be the same.

How important is it for the tournament that it is granted that one of the Russian players will be in the finals: both man and woman?

I think this is crucial for the tournament, after all, it is held in Russia. For the audience it is important, perhaps it will be more interesting for them than to watch the final with foreign players, but again, it depends on what kind of foreign players is presented. But still, people come to support, and for all of us it is an advantage.

What do you think about the fans on the stands?

Well, yesterday, I didn’t actually need a support, but the audience was very loud. And today, in the third set, after this conflict with the referee, I wound up myself. I started asking for something from the public. They supported well. My friends in the box were shouting, agitating the public, it was very cool, it helped me a lot.
